5 Simple Tips To Help Struggling Readers Find Success with PRIDE Reading

I’ve been there. I’ve felt the doubt and let the insecurity take hold. I’ve questioned myself, my methods, and what I was doing homeschooling when my son entered the 1st grade and he still wasn’t reading. 

Until one day, he was. He had been given a book that he very much wanted to read and so we did.    

Tip #2 – Be Patient

Rome wasn’t built in a day, my friend, and odds are your child won’t read in a day either. However, just like a building is built one brick, nail, or another piece of building material at a time, so are your child’s reading skills. 

With my son, we spent two years working on phonics lessons, practicing sight words, and even hitting up our local library for Dick and Jane books as we worked to find success.

And while there were many it didn’t seem like things were coming together, once they fell into place, progress came quickly. 

Tip #3 – Get Help

Whether you opt for the support of fellow homeschool moms in a co-op or a Facebook group, visit with your local librarian for suggestions, or utilize a guided reading program, getting help for your struggling reader (and yourself) can be just the trick you need.
