Homeschool Resources To Help During School Closures
If you find yourself unexpectedly homeschooling, you are not alone! Many schools around the country and the world are shutting their doors to slow the spread of the Coronavirus. And now, parents are scrambling to help their kids and the schools as education must continue. And to save you from endless hours of research, I have compiled a plethora of homeschool resources to help during school closures.
Social Distancing For All
Over the last few weeks, we have witnessed some peculiar events unfold as COVID-19 spread throughout the world. As governments and communities looked to slow down the spread of the disease and keep citizens safe and healthy, one by one recommendation and mandates came down urging social distancing and limiting group sizing.
Then, the unthinkable happened – public and private schools shut down. Schools did their best to provide learning materials and make them accessible to parents and students alike. Parents did their best to get those resources and figure them out.
Yet, all around, I still see parents lost and confused. Feeling like there should be more.
The reality is, is that there is more. If your kids were still getting on the bus every morning they would have read alouds, gym, and recess. They would get time with their peers, art classes, and be able to visit the school library.
But right now they can’t. And neither can us homeschoolers who are not used to be cooped up all day long. We too are missing our group meetings, trips to the parks and libraries, and various extra-curricular activities. All of this social distancing affects us and our kids too.
Yet, we know that this will pass. Eventually, your kids will return to their schools. Parks, museums, and libraries will open back up and homeschoolers will once again flock to them. Life will return to normal and this will be a story we tell for years to come.
For now, though, we all just do the best we can. Help where we are able. And learn to navigate these uncharted waters of social distancing.
