HOMER Reading – The Best App for Learning To Read!

Learning To Read

Over a year ago, my youngest child asked me to learn to read. Her siblings can all read and do so at a rapid pace. She found herself wanting to unlock the magic of those written words on the pages.

Phonics came easily to her but blending and sight words did not. Not one to pressure my kids to read at an early age we simply backed off. Learning to read became something we did when she felt like it.

Yet as she approaches first grade, reading is a skill I want to put a little more emphasis on for her.

Using HOMER Reading in our Homeschool

On the pathway, my daughter was able to play fun games that worked on both phonics and sight words. She learned letter sounds, blending, and reading through a variety of lessons and games. Colorful and energetic, the app is easy to follow allowing preschool and early elementary students to easily use the program independently.

Supported Learning with HOMER

In addition to the My Pathway, there are a variety of items to explore in the Activity Center. Art, Songs & Rhymes, and Discover The World are just a few of the areas to check out. These sections of the app all support reading and exploration and are just as fun as the My Pathway area of the program.

A fantastic area to check out in the Activity Center is simply called Story Time. Your child can select from simple short stories about letters (these stories are also included in the lessons on My Pathway), stories about words, various other short stories, and classic folktales and books – all read to your child.

In the Parent Settings section of the app, I can easily track my daughter’s progress through the 22 levels she was assigned or print a certificate of completion. I can also print any or all of the Write and Draw pages that help with both reading and writing, the Discover the World pages, or the Coloring Pages to help my child learn about the different characters in the program.
