What Kind of Love Do You Have In A World Driven by Hate?

It has been a long time since I have written anything in this section of the blog… nearly a year. For the last year, I have had ideas of topics to write about but those ideas never grew into posts. Instead of growing into anything they simply roamed around my head colliding with one another until all I was left with was a jumbled mess of thoughts and ideas. 

And instead of forcing a post I simply let them glide around my mind waiting for something to solidify. 

Lost in my own trial that threatened to stop me in my own tracks. Unsure how to word things. And simply waiting for direction on where to go both in my life and with this site.

What The World Needs Now

Right now our world is just so messed up. Not in the normal sense, rather, the world is messed up in a way that seems somehow more chaotic. People are angrier. More hurtful. Everywhere you look, someone is cutting someone else down or waiting for them to step out of line so they can say “gotcha!” 

Neighbors are tattling on neighbors. 

Friends are turning on friends. 

And the church is just as guilty. 

Is Love, Sweet Love

It’s overdone, I know. In fact, I’ve written about love and biblical love a few other times on this site.

Yet that’s what it all comes back to. 

Love. 

…The greatest of these is love. (1 Cor 13:13)

…If you love me keep my commandments. (John 14:15)

…For God so loved the world… (John 3:16)

…Love is patient, love is kind… (1 Cor 13:4)

…Greater love hath no man than this… (John 15:13)

…God is love…(1 John 4:8)

It’s The Only Thing

That there’s just too little of. 

But in the church, in our churches, it shouldn’t be this way. Jesus came to give us the greatest example of love and all He asked us to do in return was to love others as He loved us. To show others our salvation by being the light in this fallen world. To be patient, kind, forgiving. 

Yet day in and day out we act as if it’s too hard. We say we can’t be patient with this person because we have been patient long enough. We can’t be kind to this person because they simply refuse to change. And we can’t possibly forgive because they hurt us too badly. 

Our love though isn’t supposed to have a time-stamp on it. It’s not supposed to expire or run out. Our love for one another, our ability to be patient and kind and forgiving, is supposed to come from God Himself. 

And when it does, we can’t run out because God is love (1 John 4:8).

Where Does Your Love Come From?

That’s the question then – where does your love come from? True love comes from above and it doesn’t run out. It doesn’t keep a list of wrongs or wait for the person to fail. 

True love doesn’t boast when someone falls or hope they don’t succeed. 

True Biblical love, the kind that God fills us with, is never-ending. All-encompassing. Greater than any flaw or failure on earth. 

It’s the kind of love that sends His Son to suffer your penalty. 

It’s the kind of love that willingly pays your penalty. 

It’s the kind of love that always finds a way to mend a broken relationship even when the break is not your fault. 

No excuse. No last straw. Simply love and a desire to fix a relationship, mend a friendship, and restore a fellowship.

What Kind Of Love Are You Showing?

What kind of love are you showing in your life? To your family, your church members, your friends?

What kind of love are you showing to the cashier at the store or the drive thru? The stranger who cuts you off in traffic?

What kind of love are you showing the stranger on the street? The people on social media? Those who believe differently than you.

What kind of love are you giving this world?

And does your love come with strings and a list of restrictions or is it never-ending, all-encompassing, and forgiving?

Or is it the kind of love a believer is supposed to share, a love that is from above?
