When it comes to homeschool math, homeschool moms tend to fall into one of two categories – either they love it or they hate it. Yet no matter which group you fall into, CTCMath is here to help you customize your homeschool math program with their Homeschool Family Membership.

Homeschool Math Is Necessary – Even If No One Likes It

Math is a subject that can cause frustration in many homeschool households. Unlike many other subjects, math needs to follow a specific order so that children can progress year after year.

Gaps in math tend to be the biggest source of frustration for parents and students alike because math has to follow a specific order. Each lesson builds on prior lessons, and each year builds on prior years.

This happens to be one of my favorite aspects of CTCMath. When my child is struggling, I can go in and customize the program! Whether I am creating specific worksheets for extra practice, having one of the kids work on drills to help with memorization, or simply opt to repeat a lesson, with CTCMath, I am in control.

What Is CTCMath?

If you aren’t familiar with CTCMath, they are an online homeschool math program for kids in grades k-12. With short video-based lessons, CTCMath does the teaching for you. Following the video, your child will have a chance to use the skill presented in the video.

Your children can easily progress through CTCMath by simply completing the next lesson in the program. With automatic grading, you can be as hands-on (or hands-off) as you want to be.

From the parent’s area, you can easily check for progress, see grades, assign work, and add in additional practice you think your child needs. You can also register for weekly progress reports that are automatically sent to your email.

Customizing Our Homeschool Math Program with CTCMath

Homeschooling 4 different grades (ranging from early elementary to upper high school) means I need programs that are going to help not confuse our homeschool. While there are many, many different choices out there when it comes to homeschool math, we have found 3 great reasons to have CTCMath as a part of our home education.

1. Custom Worksheets

With CTCMath, I can quickly and easily create custom worksheets for my children based on their lesson progress to date. If there is an area we need to spend more time on, we can do that.

From the parent login, I select the Question Bank Wizard at the top. This brings me to an overview of all worksheets I have created in the past and also allows me to create additional worksheets. I can even choose from all lessons taught on CTCMath – meaning we are not stuck in one grade level.

This can be used to check for retention, to review a lesson that was a struggle, or to prepare for a review.

For my hands-on learner, this is perfect! She does well enough learning via a visual lesson, but it’s when she can finally put pencil to paper that the information sticks.

2. Speed Drills

The early years of math are all about the basics and foundational skills. These skills are vital to success in the upper grades.

Which is one of the reasons we love the speed skills and times table practice available on CTCMath.

With speed skills, your child can choose from one of four levels and choose what type of math they want to work on. Everything from the basics of addition and subtraction to the more complex items such as division with remainder and order of operations are included.

Speed skills are an excellent way to reinforce root memorization of basic math facts and help your child improve both their math abilities and their confidence.

And with Times Tables, a fun little video-game style program, your child can work on multiplication drills in a fun way competing only against themselves. For my video-game loving 10-year-old, this was the perfect way to work those pesky multiplication facts and make them fun for him.

3. Repeat Lessons

Yup. There are times when a lesson simply doesn’t stick. Maybe my child was having an off day or we were rushing… perhaps they were simply daydreaming and not even paying attention.

Yeah, that happens.

Regardless of the reason, with CTCMath, my kids can go back and redo a lesson that was challenging – no matter the reason.

This is perfect for when a child who for years was great in math, flying through lesson after lesson, all of a sudden hits a wall in upper levels. Rather than press on in confusion and frustration, you can go back, rework the lesson and create additional worksheets to help solidify the concept before moving on.

Also ideal if math has always been a source of stress for one or more of your kids. Repeated exposure and repetitive practice can help shore up skills and increase abilities and confidence in math.

Yeah, But I’m Not So Sure…

I get that. Choosing a curriculum for homeschool math can be stressful and I don’t want you feel like you are just shooting darts and hoping for success.

With the CTCMath free trial, you won’t be! With no strings attached, you can try out CTCMath right now before you decide if the Homeschool Family Membership is right for you.
