The start of a new homeschool year means the start of a new level of Teaching Textbooks math!

Is Teaching Textbooks A Good Math Program?

Year after year we renew our enrollment because Teaching Textbooks math is a solid, video-based math program that teaches mathematics in a way that I am confident helps my children learn and improve their math skills.

Standard features in the Teaching Textbook app, like the scratchpad, hints, video lessons, and a digital textbook, are all aspects of the program that our family knows and loves.

This year we are starting our 6th year as part of the Teaching Textbooks family. In fact, we have used every level of TT math except Pre-Calculus at this point. And we’ve been with them through several transformations, each one making the program so much better.

Speaking of better… let’s get into this because I am so excited to share with you some of the lesser-known features of Teaching Textbooks math so you can see for yourself just how amazing this homeschool math curriculum is!

Did you know that Teaching Textbooks uses real-life examples in their math course?

Did You Know Teaching Textbooks Offers…?

And now, here are 21 features of the Teaching Textbooks math program that, perhaps, you are unaware of. All of these features help make Teaching Textbooks one of the best math programs for homeschoolers, and our personal favorite curriculum.

Plus, they make the experience of learning math in your homeschool just a little bit easier for you and your children.

๐Ÿ’ก Interactive lectures – Your child won’t just be sitting and listening to the video lessons, they will be active participants receiving feedback, encouragement, and a little extra help if they need it all before the lesson work even begins!

Strategically placed hints give your child gentle prompting to help them complete trickier problems.

๐Ÿ’ก Strategically Placed Hints – A gentle prompting on trickier problems to help encourage your child to recall the information they learned and be successful. (Hints can be turned off from the parent dashboard).

๐Ÿ’ก Second Chances – Offered on every problem, the second chance allows your child to rework the problem for full credit. (Again, you can turn this feature off if you’d like.)

๐Ÿ’ก Offline Use – Take Teaching Textbooks on the go by simply downloading the app to your mobile device.

Reward stickers are something we frequently share in our home!

๐Ÿ’ก Reward Stickers – Always motivating in our home, reward stickers pop up after successfully completing every problem to celebrate with your child.

๐Ÿ’ก Buddies – These guys are for the younger students (Math 3-7) and they are there to help motivate and encourage (but can be turned off if they become a distraction).

๐Ÿ’ก Scratchpad – Work out those harder problems within the app with a digital scratchpad. My kids LOVE this feature and use it even when they don’t actually need it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Math buddies help your children personalize their Teaching Textbook experience and make it a little more fun.

๐Ÿ’ก Real Life Examples – Unlike your school math textbook, Teaching Textbooks doesn’t feature a guy buying 58 watermelon or 107 bananas. It does, however, feature real-life examples that help your children see just how they will utilize the math skills they are learning.

๐Ÿ’ก Practice Problems – After each lecture, your child will work on 5 practice problems. These aren’t graded, but they are there to make sure your child is ready to move on to the assignment.

๐Ÿ’ก Reference Numbers To Prior Lessons – An especially helpful feature in the upper levels, these reference numbers help you know which lesson to go back to if you need some help on a particular problem. They also can reference the practice problems.

Especially helpful in the upper grades, Teaching Textbooks math offers automatic grading.

๐Ÿ’ก Audio & Video Lessons – While I frequently share how much we love the video lessons that Teaching Textbooks offers, they also make sure that your auditory learners are supported by reading everything aloud and dictating the entire program.

๐Ÿ’ก Independent Work – Yup. I’m going to say it… I LOVE this one! In fact, this was THE reason we searched out a new math program all those years ago – independent learning. With video lessons, automatic grading, built-in hints, and second chances, I knew that my kids could learn math independently.

๐Ÿ’ก Student Gradebook – Your kids can peek at their progress anytime they want using the student grade book.

๐Ÿ’ก Extra Practice Problems – Log into the parent portal and print off some extra help for both pre-Algebra and Algebra.

๐Ÿ’ก Online Parent Portal – Keep an eye on your child’s progress, turn off or on hints, second chances, the scratch pad, and more all from the portal.
